Upon his Hat

On top of a head that was covered in hair,
Sat a hat to which none could compare.
The beautiful Virgin, all full of grace,
Took the central and prominent place.
Two angels below supported her feet,
While Mary looked down, so mild and sweet.
White lilies bloomed and climbed up the sides,
Symbols of life for the Saviour who died.
A more wonderful hat couldn't be picked
To grace the white head of Pope Benedict.
